How good do I have to be to get into heaven?

God has set a standard for those who will get into his kingdom.  Since it is His House He has the right to say who can enter in, just as we also have a right to say who can come into our house.  God’s criteria for getting into heaven is ABSOLUTE PERFECTION. God’s standard we can read about in Revelation chapter 21 in relation to the new heaven and new earth.  Verse 27 tells us “and there shall in no wise enter into it any thing that defileth.”  God will not allow sin to defile heaven as it has the earth.

You are probably saying to yourself now, “Absolute perfection that’s impossible, no one is perfect.  Are you trying to tell me then that no one will go to heaven?” You would be correct in the first part, no one is perfect as each one of us has told a lie, or stolen something at some point in our lives, maybe not since we were young, but still we have fallen short of God’s standard.  The second part in relation to, no one going to heaven, is incorrect.  1 John Chapter 1 verse 7 tell us, “and the blood of Jesus Christ his Son cleanseth us from all sin”.  We are not reliant upon our own ability to get into heaven by being good enough, but instead are relying on God’s Son Jesus Christ, and His blood which was shed at the cross to cleanse us from ALL SIN. 

Maybe now you are asking, “Does this mean everyone is going to heaven since the blood of Jesus Christ cleanses us from sin?”  The answer to that question is NO.  Verse 9 of the same chapter tells us “If we confess our sins, he (God) is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.”  God wants to forgive you of all that you have done or will do that offends Him through your sin.  All you have to do is truly repent of your sin, confess it to God, and ask Him to forgive you, and the wonderful this is He WILL forgive you.  Once God as forgiven you of all your sin, then because of what Our Lord Jesus Christ has done on Calvary’s cross, you can have your sins forgiven and be sure of a place in heaven.
